Job summary

Ascendo-Resources is seeking a Grant Accountant / Senior Fiscal Analyst in NYC with 5+ years of grants accounting or government contract experience. The role focuses largely on government contract management (approximately 80%) and month-end close tasks (approximately 20%).

The position offers remote work with onsite obligations ~once per month, a schedule aligned to a 35-hour week, and compensation in the $80K–$85K range plus contract-rate opportunities between $40–$45/hr.

Grant Accountant / Senior Fiscal Analyst

Location: NYC | Fully Remote
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM / 35-hour week
Onsite: Approximately once per month and as needed for audits
Compensation: $80K–$85K
Contract: 3+ months with opportunity to convert
Contract Rate: $40–$45/hr

A well-established NYC nonprofit is bringing its outsourced grant and contract management function in-house and is seeking an experienced Grant Accountant / Senior Fiscal Analyst.

This role is approximately 80% government contract/grant management and 20% accounting/month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Manage government and nonprofit contracts from budgeting through billing, reporting, and reconciliation


• Prepare vouchers, billing, AR, revenue reports, and budget modifications


• Perform budget-to-actual and variance analysis


• Partner with program teams on financial submissions and reporting


• Communicate with government agencies and funders


• Support month-end close, journal entries, reclasses, and revenue


• Manage an assigned portfolio independently

Requirements

• 5+ years of grants accounting, fiscal analysis, or government contract experience


• Strong government/nonprofit contract experience


• Experience with city, state, and/or federal funding


• HRA, HUD, OMH, HOPWA, HASA, DHS, NY State, or similar experience preferred


• Strong Excel skills — VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, reporting


• Experience with budgets, billing, vouchers, AR, revenue, and reconciliations


• PASSPort/PHS or similar portal experience strongly preferred


• Sage Intacct experience preferred; NetSuite exposure is a plus

Ideal Candidate

A self-sufficient professional who has directly managed government-funded nonprofit contracts and understands the full financial lifecycle of grants and contracts.

Portfolio: Organization manages approximately $23M in grants/contracts, with individual portfolios potentially exceeding $10M.
