Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a Grants Accountant to manage government and privately funded contracts and grants in a nonprofit setting. The role focuses on grant accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and audit support while collaborating with program teams.

The position is based in Long Island City, NY with five days onsite. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and 3–5 years of relevant nonprofit fund accounting experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Nonprofit fund accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with government contracts, vouchers, and claims.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of contracts and grants.
• Prepare grant proposals, budgets, budget modifications, and financial analyses.
• Review grants monthly to ensure accurate financial data for claims and reimbursements.
• Manage allocation of personnel and OTPS costs to contracts.
• Perform budget variance reviews and prepare financial reports.
• Track grant receivables, claims, and payments.
• Reconcile contract accounts and general ledger activity.
• Prepare timely reports for leadership.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors.
• Respond to financial and compliance information requests.
