Job summary

LeoForce is seeking a Grant Accountant in the Bellingham area to support a high-volume grants portfolio within the accounting team. The role will focus on cleaning up and organizing grant accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with grant requirements, and supporting month-end close for grant activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with grant accounting, fund accounting, nonprofit accounting, governmental accounting, or similar environments.
  • Strong understanding of reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Experience working with a high volume of transactions, grants, or funding sources.
  • Strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accounting records for a high volume of grants and funding sources
  • Assist with the cleanup and reconciliation of existing grant accounts
  • Review grant-related transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding
  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Track grant expenditures against approved budgets and funding requirements
  • Assist with grant reporting and supporting documentation
  • Help ensure expenses are properly allocated to the appropriate grants and programs
  • Maintain organized records for audits and compliance reviews
  • Work closely with accounting and operational teams to resolve discrepancies and obtain necessary documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve grant accounting processes and reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities related to grants
  • Assist with other accounting projects as needed

Job Details

We are partnering with a well-established organization in the Bellingham area to add a Grant Accountant to their accounting team. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working with detailed financial information, managing multiple funding sources, and bringing organization to a high-volume grant environment.

This position will initially be contract with strong potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and business needs.

About the Role

The Grant Accountant will support the accounting team with a high volume of grants and funding programs, helping ensure financial records are accurate, organized, and compliant with applicable grant requirements.

A significant focus of the position will be cleaning up and organizing existing grant accounting, identifying discrepancies, reconciling accounts, and helping establish stronger processes going forward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain accounting records for a high volume of grants and funding sources
  • Assist with the cleanup and reconciliation of existing grant accounts
  • Review grant-related transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable digging into existing records and helping clean up accounting discrepancies
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
