Job summary

The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Grand Rapids is seeking Lifeguards to ensure safety and provide excellent service to members and visitors.

As a Lifeguard you will enforce rules, perform rescues, administer first aid, and assist with swim programs while maintaining cleanliness and records. Training and certifications are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• English proficiency required; Spanish is a plus.
• Flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid certifications required before starting.
• Training provided if you do not have lifeguard training.
• WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification within six months preferred or obtainable.
• American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Enforce center rules to maintain a safe swimming environment.
• Monitor swimmers and perform rescues when necessary.
• Administer first aid and CPR as trained.
• Keep pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other areas clean and orderly.
• Maintain records and reports as required.
• Assist with swim lessons and aquatic programs.
• Attend in-service trainings to stay current with safety procedures.
• Communicate clearly with staff and visitors.

Responsibilities:

Safety First: Enforce Kroc Center rules to create a safe haven for all. Keep a watchful eye, caution swimmers about unsafe behaviors, and maintain order in swimming areas.

Swift Rescuer: Analyze situations with quick thinking and take effective action to rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.

Lifesaver: Administer first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed, being a beacon of hope in critical moments.

Cleanliness Guru: Ensure the swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other assigned areas are pristine, making every visit enjoyable.

Record Keeper: Maintain records and reports as required, keeping our operations shipshape.

Team Player: Assist with swim lessons and collaborate with our aquatic programs, enhancing the overall experience for our community.

Continuous Improvement: Attend all in-service trainings to sharpen your skills and knowledge.

Effective Communicator: Communicate seamlessly with co-workers and customers, creating a friendly and informative atmosphere.

Qualifications:

Age is Just a Number: Must be at least 15 years old, so dive in no matter your age!

Language Skills: Proficiency in English is a must, and if you speak Spanish, it's a plus!

Flexible Hours: Be prepared to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts to fit your schedule.

Certifications: Obtain American Red Cross certifications for Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer before starting your employment.

Training: Don't have Lifeguard training? No problem! We offer training to get you certified.

Teaching Potential: If you're interested in teaching, the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is required or can be achieved within six months.

Extra Mile: American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification is highly desirable.
