Job summary

The Salvation Army Kroc Center in South Bend is seeking dependable Lifeguards to monitor pool areas, respond to emergencies, enforce pool rules, and provide CPR and first aid when needed, helping create a safe, welcoming aquatic experience for members and guests. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour with a sign-on bonus up to $1,200.

Flexible shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays; applicants must be 16+.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required.
• Must obtain American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within 90 days of hire.
• AED and Oxygen Administration certifications are preferred.
• Must complete Safe From Harm training within 90 days of employment.
• Must be able to remain alert, communicate clearly, and respond effectively in an emergency.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Spanish-speaking skills are helpful but not required.
• Candidates age 18 or older must successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Monitor assigned pool areas and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Rescue swimmers and provide CPR, first aid, or rescue breathing when needed.
• Enforce pool rules and promote a safe environment.
• Control access to pools and aquatic areas.
• Keep pool decks, locker rooms, restrooms, and equipment areas clean.
• Inspect equipment and report safety concerns or needed repairs.
• Provide friendly, respectful service to members and guests.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

$1,200 Sign-On Bonus

Newly hired Lifeguards may qualify for a $1,200 sign-on bonus, paid in three installments after 3, 6, and 12 months of continuous employment.

To qualify, employees must:

• Obtain Water Safety Instructor certification within 90 days
• Work an average of at least five hours per week
• Maintain satisfactory attendance and follow workplace policiesRemain actively employed and in good standing

Individuals who worked as Lifeguards at the South Bend Kroc Center within the past 12 months are not eligible for the bonus.
