Responsibilities

Job Location: River Valley Terminal - Holcomb, KS 67851

Position Type: Full Time

The Grain Rail Terminal Location Manager will direct, promote, and coordinate the location in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service. You will be responsible for managing all employees at the facility while maintaining operations, safety, and customer service to represent the Garden City Co-op.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a grain storage facility is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The grain rail terminal location manager’s responsibilities involve supervision, reporting, grain handling and management, rail car loading and unloading, safety and maintenance, service, and other duties as assigned by the area grain supervisor.
  • The grain rail terminal location manager will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the cooperative and presents a favorable image of the cooperative.
  • Conducting required safety training, as requested, and completing documentation.
  • Supervise and scheduling of employees to facilitate loading or unloading of railcars.
  • Communicating in a positive and professional manner with the Railroad and Grain Inspectors.
  • Gain operational knowledge of railroads, railroad equipment, and grain terminal facility.
  • Receive and ship grain efficiently using the available staff and your abilities.
  • Meet and operate under tight time frames, moving in and out rail cars as safely and efficiently as possible.
SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

SUPERVISION

Supervision involves training personnel, communicating to employees, helping staff the location, delegating workload, support employee growth and teamwork, and uphold cooperative policies.

  • Help staff and adjust work force to fit needs with a minimum of unproductive labor costs.
  • Maintain a regular maintenance, housekeeping, and safety training schedule for the facility, equipment, and employees.
  • Will be responsible for everyone’s safety during rail loading and unloading operations. Must be comfortable shutting down operations if unsafe situations arise.
  • Ensure that employees uphold all cooperative policies.
REPORTING

Reporting involves communicating to management storage space availability, operations, grain condition, and any problems that may require additional help.

Qualifications / GRAIN MANAGEMENT

Grain management involves assuring proper grain storage and condition, blending grain for proper storage, practicing good housekeeping, and monitoring rodent infestation.

  • Properly bin grain according to grade and moisture to maintain the highest quality possible.
  • Maintain up-to-date bin charts showing commodity type, weight, moisture, and quantity of grain stored in each bin.
  • Check and record temperatures of grain at least weekly.
GRAIN HANDLING

Grain handling involves handling incoming, binned, and outgoing grain, maintaining the quality of grains, blending grains.

  • Maintain condition of grain in anticipation of handling, blending, and loading.
  • Make efficient use of available storage space.
  • Read temperatures and check hot spots at least weekly.
  • Make periodic inspections of all stored grains.
  • Make recommendations to management when necessary to improve the grain handling operation and to provide better service for the customer.
  • Blend grains as necessary to achieve maximum grade and resultant price for the cooperative and its customers.
SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE

Safety and maintenance involve following safety regulations and maintaining equipment and facilities.

  • Maintain clean and neat facilities.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities regularly.
  • Ability to listen and identify malfunctioning equipment
  • Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Observe OSHA, state, federal, and company regulations or policies.
SERVICE

Service involves providing customer service that will result in a pleasant and efficient facility.

  • Arrange for coverage of duties in case of a planned or unplanned absence.
  • Promptly and courteously answer the phone.
  • Work with customers to resolve problems and report complaints to your supervisor.
  • Actively work to increase personal skills and knowledge.
  • Attend cooperative meetings as requested.
OTHER DUTIES

The rail terminal location manager will uphold cooperative policies and perform other duties as assigned by management.
