Job summary

Landus Cooperative in Des Moines, IA offers a Grain Origination & Merchandising Internship designed to teach the basics of grain markets, CBOT terminology, contracts, and margin management while supporting the grain origination team.

You will gain hands-on experience through farm visits, phone calls, and learning Landus’ customer base, with opportunities to develop professional skills and contribute to market insights under supervision.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4-year post-secondary program.
• A valid state driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Gain basic knowledge and understanding of grain markets and CBOT terminology
• Understand Landus Cooperative as a company and learn about the customer base
• Monitor how the Grain Origination team effectively manages grower relationships
• Learn about the various contract options Landus Cooperative offers growers
• Understand key concepts tied to basis, futures, commodity spreads and freight
• Conduct consistent phone calls and farm visits to gain market knowledge, maintain relationships and understand market sentiment
• Acquire skills centered on how Landus Cooperative Grain Merchandisers effectively manage margins, risk, expenses, grain quality and external/internal relationships
• Communicate professionally, internally and externally, with end users, co-workers and producers regarding grain values

About the Role?

This internship will assist the grain division in coordinating, implementing, and maintaining an effective grain origination program while assisting members with grain marketing strategies. The Grain Origination & Merchandising Intern will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within Landus Cooperative and a professional image for Landus Cooperative.
