Job summary

The DeLong Co., Inc. in Edgerton, KS is hiring a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator for a full-time, non-exempt role. The position requires a high school diploma and willingness to work outdoors year-round, with shift hours usually 6:30 a.m.

to 3:00 p.m., extended 6:30 a.m.–5 p.m. during September–November. Base pay is stated, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, Rx, life insurance, 401k with matching, and disability coverage.

  • Ability to work long hours on a flexible schedule, including some weekends during peak harvest time (Sept–Nov).

Responsibilities

  • Work safely within company policy, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Perform critical operations to keep the facility running.
  • Assist in unloading, loading, and transferring grain and grain products by truck and rail.
  • Develop knowledge of the product and its hazardous properties.
  • Understand proper operation of conveyance equipment and safety systems.
  • Provide a high level of customer service with courteous, helpful interactions.
  • Maintain housekeeping of grain handling areas and related spaces.
  • Monitor equipment and notify management of repairs or concerns; remove choke-ups and clean spills.
  • Be an engaged team member and willing to act and think independently.
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical workdays and hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the peak working hours. From September until November, hours will be 6:30 am – 5 pm.


Location: Edgerton, Kansas

Pay: $18/Hour

  • As a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator, you must work safely within company policy, procedures, and governmental regulations and fully participate in company safety programs

  • Perform critical operations to keep the facility running

  • This position is expected to assist in all areas of the unloading, loading, and transferring of grain and grain products by truck and rail operations

  • Must develop a knowledge of the product you are dealing with and its hazardous properties

  • Understand the proper operation of conveyance equipment that is utilized in shipping, receiving, and transferring of grain and grain products, and the associated safety systems of that equipment

  • Provide a high level of customer service by displaying courteous, helpful, knowledgeable interactions and behaviors.

  • Housekeeping as related, but not limited to, the cleanliness and orderliness of the grain handling area (tunnels, head house, concrete grounds, grass areas, etc.), as well as any areas within the plant as delegated by the position supervisor

  • Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment, and notify management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns. Remove choke-ups, cleans spills, and follows proper safety policies while doing such

  • Be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently.

  • Other duties as assigned


Work Environment for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

This job operates in an outdoor environment. There is exposure to grain dust, weather elements, heavy truck and machinery activity. Includes working at heights up to 150’. Harnesses and other safety equipment are required in some situations, and one must be willing/able to perform the task while wearing these items.


Physical Demands for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, handle heights up to 150 feet, and work in all weather conditions. This is a manual labor job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and must be safety oriented.
