Job summary

The DeLong Co. is seeking an Elevator Operator - Level 1 in Joliet, IL to prepare, clean, and repair shipping containers for grain loading. This hands-on role focuses on safety, quality, and housekeeping to keep the location running smoothly.

You will operate during harvest cycles, lift up to 40 lbs, and participate in weekly safety training while maintaining records of fumigation materials and daily logs.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills to navigate the internet for online safety training.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Agricultural experience preferred.
  • Ability to work extended hours during harvest time (approx. September – January), 65–75 hours per week including some weekends.
  • Ability to work in variable weather and adverse conditions, including a dusty environment.
  • Comfortable working with fall protection at minimum heights of 14–16 feet.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare containers using strapping or wood so they're ready to be filled with different types of grain.
  • Place fumigation materials inside shipping containers to be loaded with Dried Distillers Grains.
  • Count and log all fumigation materials onsite each day.
  • Assist Spotter Drivers with backing shipping containers onto augers to be loaded with grain.
  • Inspect shipping containers after loading to ensure grain meets DeLong quality standards before the container is sealed and ready for shipment.
  • Assist with basic preventative maintenance.
  • Participate in weekly safety training.
  • Keep the area stocked with needed supplies.
  • Perform basic housekeeping of the work area, which may include sweeping the inside of grain bins.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Elevator Operator - Level 1, you will prepare, clean, and repair shipping containers so they're ready to be filled with grain, while maintaining general housekeeping of the location.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
