Job summary

The DeLong Co., Inc. seeks a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator for full-time work in an outdoor grain handling environment. Typical hours are Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m.

to 4:00 p.m., with some flexibility for appointments and peak periods. This role requires willingness to work outside all year and adherence to safety policies. You will assist in unloading, loading and transferring grain and grain products, operate conveyance equipment, and participate in safety programs while providing

  • Ability to work outdoors year-round and in a fast-moving environment.
  • Willingness to work outside all year is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in unloading, loading and transferring of grain and grain products via barge, truck and rail.
  • Operate conveyance equipment and follow safety systems.
  • Provide courteous, helpful customer interactions and maintain cleanliness and order in grain handling areas.
  • Monitor equipment and participate in facility maintenance and safety programs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed to accommodate appointments, but the employee must be regularly available during the peak work hours.

  • As a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator, you must work safely within company policy, procedures, and governmental regulations and fully participate in company safety programs.
  • Perform critical operations to keep facility running.
  • This position is expected to assist all areas of the unloading, loading and transferring of grain and grain products which may include but not be limited to barge, truck and rail operations.
  • Must develop a knowledge of the product you are dealing with and its hazardous properties.
  • Understand the proper operation of conveyance equipment that is utilized in the shipping, receiving and transferring of grain and grain products and the associated safety systems of that equipment.
  • Provide a high level of customer service by displaying courteous, helpful, knowledgeable interaction and behaviors.
  • Housekeeping as related, but not limited to, the cleanliness and orderliness of the grain handling area (tunnels, head house, concrete grounds, grass areas, etc.), as well as any areas within the plant as delegated by position supervisor.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment - notify management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns. Removes choke-ups, cleans spills and follows proper safety policies while doing such.
  • Be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

This job operates in an outdoor environment. There is exposure to grain dust, weather elements, heavy truck and machinery activity.This position will require working at heights up to 40’. Harnesses are required in some situations, must be willing/able to perform task while wearing these items.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, handle heights up to 40 feet, and work in all weather conditions. This is a manual labor job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively. Must be safety oriented.
