Job summary

The DeLong Co., Inc. is seeking a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator for a full-time seasonal role in Wisconsin. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m.

to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with extended hours during September to November. Willingness to work outside all year is a must. Responsibilities include operating the grain handling process safely, assisting in unloading/loading, monitoring equipment, and delivering courteous customer service in an outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate grain elevator safely per company policy and regulatory requirements.
• Perform critical operations to keep the facility running.
• Assist unloading, loading and transferring grain and grain products (barge, truck, rail).
• Develop knowledge of products and hazards associated with them.
• Understand conveyance equipment and safety systems used in shipping and receiving.
• Provide courteous, knowledgeable customer service.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the grain handling areas and plant.
• Monitor equipment, participate in maintenance, report repairs needed.
• Be an engaged team member and perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $19-$21/hour based on experience. A seasonal bonus may be provided based on attendance and performance at the end of the completed harvest season.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time seasonal position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the peak work hours. From September until November hours will be 7am - 7pm.

• As a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator you must work safely within company policy, procedures, and governmental regulations and fully participate in company safety programs
• Perform critical operations to keep facility running
• This position is expected to assist all areas of the unloading, loading and transferring of grain and grain products which may include but not be limited to barge, truck and rail operations
• Must develop a knowledge of the product you are dealing with and its hazardous properties
• Understand the proper operation of conveyance equipment that is utilized in the shipping, receiving and transferring of grain and grain products and the associated safety systems of that equipment
• Provide a high level of customer service by displaying courteous, helpful, knowledgeable interaction and behaviors.
• Housekeeping as related, but not limited to, the cleanliness and orderliness of the grain handling area (tunnels, head house, concrete grounds, grass areas, etc.), as well as any areas within the plant as delegated by position supervisor
• Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment - notify management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns. Removes choke-ups, cleans spills and follows proper safety policies while doing such
• Be an involved/engaged member of a team and be willing to act and think independently.

Work Environment for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

This job operates in an outdoor environment. There is exposure to grain dust, weather elements, heavy truck and machinery activity.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, handle heights up to 150 feet, and work in all weather conditions. This is a manual labor job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
