Job summary

Canonical is seeking a graduate software engineer to join a globally distributed team building Ubuntu and open-source infrastructure. Write production code daily in Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript or Java depending on your project.

Contribute to real-world systems powering cloud computing, containers, and enterprise deployments. You'll work with experienced engineers who will mentor your development.

Qualifications

  • :Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related STEM field with substantial programming coursework.
  • :Strong command of at least one listed language with ability to write clean, reliable code from day one.
  • :Hands-on familiarity with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution.
  • :Consistently strong academic results throughout schooling and degree.
  • :Portfolio of personal technology projects demonstrating initiative and passion.

Responsibilities

What we're looking for
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics or a related STEM field with substantial programming coursework
  • Strong command of at least one of Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript or Java, with ability to write clean and reliable code from day one
  • Hands‑on familiarity with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution
  • Consistently strong academic results throughout your schooling and degree
  • A portfolio of personal technology projects built outside your studies that demonstrate initiative and passion
  • A track record of pushing beyond what is expected to deliver exceptional outcomes
  • Fluency in written and spoken English for collaboration across teams
  • Strong problem‑solving instincts paired with curiosity about how systems work
  • Genuine interest in learning, self‑reflection and continuous improvement
  • Reliability and follow-through on the work you commit to
  • Natural ability to work well with others and adapt to new environments and challenges
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to two weeks per year for company gatherings and events
