Job summary

Canonical is hiring 2025 and 2026 Graduate Software Engineers into engineering teams around the world. This globally remote role involves contributing to open source and commercial systems across Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript, and Java.

You will work from home with team sprints in various locations, collaborating across time zones. The program emphasizes strong academics, a CS/STEM degree, and hands-on projects, with opportunities to travel for events and engage with the open source

Qualifications

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM with programming courses.
  • Ability to deliver high quality code in Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript or Java.
  • Experience with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution.
  • Proven initiative with personal tech projects beyond curriculum.
  • Proficient spoken and written English; strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Shaping the roadmap for your product at global sprints every six months.
  • Focusing on design and user experience, even for developer tooling and CLIs.
  • Writing high quality, resilient and performant code serving large user bases.
  • Developing mastery of key programming languages and Linux system knowledge.
  • Engaging with users and the open source community through reviews and issue trackers.
  • Addressing customer issues as a priority and understanding enterprise requirements.
  • Growing security awareness in software design and implementation.
