Job summary

First American's National Commercial Services offers an Underwriting intern program for graduate and law students, providing exposure to title and financial services and hands-on assignments under senior guidance. 2L and 3L law students may work on real estate law projects, including research, indemnity letters, and seminars.

Interns gain experience in corporate underwriting, risk analysis, and professional networking, with mentorship from seasoned underwriters and in-house counsel.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school as a rising 2L or 3L.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research in support of underwriting decisions.
• Analyze real estate law issues including title, lien, foreclosure, and authority matters.
• Review policy forms, endorsements, and underwriting standards.
• Participate in underwriting file discussions and risk analysis sessions.
• Shadow underwriters on active transactions and approval workflows.
