Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking a Graduate Intern to join the Electric Transmission Planning & Strategic Initiatives team in Virginia. The role focuses on power system modeling, analysis, and exploring innovative technologies to ensure reliability and support clean energy goals.

You’ll work with tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, MATLAB, and Python, gain mentorship, and contribute to studies and data center load modeling. Expected to present findings at a conference and participate in a summer project showcase.

Qualifications

• General understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and the power grid.
• Strong understanding of power system modeling.
• Knowledge of protection principles for transmission lines and substation equipment.
• Proficiency with power engineering tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, MATLAB.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and best practices.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to meet NERC certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system modeling and analysis (load flow, dynamics, small-signal).
• Analyze renewable integration impacts on transmission and distribution systems.
• Support design and engineering of advanced power systems technologies (FACTS, HVDC).
• Validate and manage power system network models.
• Develop and demonstrate tools for engineering groups.
• Engage with industry organizations and research labs.
• Assist in data mining and data analytics for studies.
• Collaborate on interdependencies between infrastructure.
