Qualifications

  • AHA BLS required before end of orientation period.

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Perioperative Fellowship is an educational experience presented through the Penn State School of Nursing. Designed to ease the transition from Gradate Nurse to a professional operating room nurse, the Perioperative Nursing Course is a structured educational program offering training into the challenging specialty of Operating Room nursing. The course begins with eight weeks of basic orientation to Perioperative nursing with didactic and clinical experience in the intra-operative setting. Orientation to all surgical specialties begins the ninth week and continues for approximately seven more months. A trauma nursing course will be provided as well. Working side-by-side with an Operating Room staff nurse preceptor, you will share in the challenges and rewards that occur at our medical center, while enjoying personal growth and skills advancement. Peer support, nurturing and continuous feedback will be provided throughout the experience. After successful completion of the program, you will be offered a full-time position at the Medical Center.

RESIDENCY APPLICATION & INTERVIEWS:

Please include an updated resume with your application. Interviews for the Graduate Nurse Residency Program are conducted weekly with hiring occurring on a rolling basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate Nurse with a Temporary Practice Permit or currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Candidates must have graduated within one (1) year of the cohort start date.
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period.

Please note - Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1st, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate in nursing degree program within one year of their hire date and complete the degree within 4 years of their hire date. (This does not apply if your hire date was prior to June 30th, 2015).
