Job summary

Hoare Lea is a leading UK building services consultancy seeking a Graduate Engineer to join the Operations Assets team. You will work on a range of high-profile projects across healthcare, hotels, retail and residential sectors, gaining hands-on experience from day one.

You will be exposed to decarbonisation, design and property consultancy, supported by a mentor and structured career paths toward Chartership, with flexible hybrid working and ongoing CPD.

Qualifications

• Degree in Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 2.1+ or equivalent.
• Strong communication, analytical and organisational skills.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Work on live projects from day one across healthcare, hotels, retail and residential sectors.
• Produce detailed designs and drawings for refurbishments and fit-outs.
• Tailor specifications, calculations and reports; use CAD and Revit.

The Role Being part of one of the UK's largest building engineering consultancies, we benefit from collaborating with some of the best engineers in the business, with access to state-of-the-art technical support, and have the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most high-profile projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. One Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, the vast £1 billion regeneration of Kings Cross in London, the Anne McLaren Building at the University of Cambridge, South Place Hotel in London, Bryn Bragl Housing in South Wales are examples of some of the amazing projects where Operational Assets have led the design with other Hoare Lea disciplines.

The 3 key areas that we work across in Operational Assets include providing the following services for our clients.

1. Decarbonisation, performance improvements and energy reduction - focus on projects that reduce energy consumption of existing buildings, improve performance for the occupants and achieve client decarbonisation / net zero targets. Applying a pragmatic approach and use of emerging technologies, from strategic roadmaps to implementation.
2. Design - Specialising in challenging existing buildings across all RIBA stages. This involves creative and innovative design solutions to enhance and transform existing buildings, ensuring the building services meet current needs and standards. You will be involved in conceptualising and implementing design strategies, working closely with clients and project teams to deliver high-quality and sustainable designs.
3. Property consultancy - providing a suite of consultancy services to the property market to assist the property management, operation and transaction processes.

As a Graduate Engineer in Operations Assets, your day-to-day tasks will vary, as we'll expose you to all aspects of our work so you can discover what suits you. You could be;

• Working on live projects from day one - our exciting projects
• In a variety of sectors from healthcare to hotels, retail to residential
• Producing detailed designs and drawings for refurbishments and fit-outs
• Tailoring a comprehensive service of specifications, calculations and reports
• Using the latest computer modelling software CAD and Revit
• Undertaking site surveys
• Conduct post-occupancy engineering services activities
• Researching ground-breaking technologies
• Work alongside our Mechanical/Electrical teams and specialist such as Acoustics, Lighting, Sustainability, Utility Infrastructure or Fire Engineering teams
• Continuous CPD and learning opportunities

Communicating will span all of these, as we regularly liaise with project teams, meet clients or end users, and attend collaborative meetings.

To be successful in this role, you'll need…

• An expected or achieved 2.1 or above in an IET, IMechE, or CIBSE accredited degree or equivalent qualification in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
• Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills
• Ability to work in a team environment and independently
• A friendly, ambitious and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach

It would be an advantage, but not necessary, if you also had…

• A Masters or other relevant post graduate qualification
• Previous placement or work experience in a similar industry
• An understanding of CAD or similar modelling software
