Job summary

Graphcore's AI Engineering Campus in Austin is looking for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to contribute to mechanical design, thermal validation, and verification of advanced AI hardware. You will work with experienced engineers across disciplines, performing 3D CAD (Creo), prototype testing, data analysis, and documentation to support development of data-center systems.

Responsibilities

• Create and update mechanical parts, assemblies, and drawings using Creo or comparable 3D CAD software.
• Take ownership of defined mechanical design tasks from requirements to verification.

• Develop mechanical and thermal test plans for prototypes and development systems.
• Set up and operate lab equipment, collect data, analyze results, and document conclusions.
• Evaluate prototypes and identify issues in mechanical, thermal, or manufacturability areas.
• Support design verification, troubleshooting, and implementation of improvements.
• Maintain engineering documentation including notes, drawings, procedures, and change records.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to join the Mech/Thermal Platform team as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. You will contribute to the mechanical design, thermal validation, and verification of advanced AI hardware and data center systems.

You will work with experienced mechanical, thermal, hardware, and systems engineers throughout the development lifecycle. The role combines 3D computer-aided design, prototype evaluation, lab testing, data analysis, troubleshooting, and clear engineering documentation.

What You Will Do

• Create and update mechanical parts, assemblies, and drawings using Creo or comparable 3D CAD software.
• Take ownership of defined mechanical design tasks from requirements and concepts through detailed design, review, release, and verification.
• Apply mechanical design, materials, manufacturing, heat transfer, and thermodynamics principles to engineering decisions.
• Develop mechanical and thermal test plans and procedures for prototypes and development systems.
• Set up and operate laboratory equipment, collect accurate data, analyze results, and document conclusions.
• Evaluate prototypes and identify mechanical, thermal, assembly, or manufacturability issues.
• Support design verification, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and implementation of verified design improvements.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including design notes, drawings, test procedures, results, and change records.
• Collaborate with thermal, electrical, hardware, systems, manufacturing, and other engineering teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
• Present progress, results, risks, and technical recommendations clearly in design and test reviews.
• Follow applicable engineering processes, configuration-control practices, laboratory procedures, and safety requirements.

What You Will Bring

• A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, completed recently or expected before the role begins.
• A strong foundation in mechanical design, heat transfer, thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing, or related engineering principles.
• Experience using 3D CAD software to create parts, assemblies, or engineering drawings through coursework, research, internships, or projects.
• Ability to plan technical work, analyze test data, document results accurately, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
• A structured approach to problem-solving, troubleshooting, and engineering investigation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.
• Curiosity, sound engineering judgment, and willingness to learn unfamiliar tools, systems, and laboratory methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Creo or another professional 3D CAD package.
• Hands-on experience setting up laboratory equipment, conducting tests, recording observations, and reporting data.
• Experience evaluating prototypes, fabricating parts, or completing mechanical design and build projects.
• Exposure to thermal management, electronics cooling, servers, data center hardware, or advanced computing systems.
• Familiarity with mechanical design verification, tolerance analysis, engineering change processes, or configuration control.
• Experience presenting design work or test results in a technical review setting.
