Job summary

Graphcore in Austin, TX is seeking a recent graduate or early-career engineer to join the Hardware Platform Development team as a Graduate Systems Engineer. You will contribute to the design, integration, validation, and performance analysis of advanced AI compute platforms.

You will work with hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers across the development lifecycle, performing hands-on lab work, test automation, data analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Recent graduates or early-career engineers welcome.
• Strong foundation in computer architecture, digital systems, embedded systems, hardware–software interaction, or system-level engineering.
• Hands-on lab testing and measurements experience from coursework, research, internships, student projects, or similar.
• Experience with programming or scripting (Python, C, C++, MATLAB).
• Ability to plan technical work, analyze data, document results, and draw evidence-based conclusions.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to join the Hardware Platform Development team as a Graduate Systems Engineer. You will contribute to the design, integration, validation, and performance analysis of advanced AI compute platforms.

You will work with experienced hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers throughout the development lifecycle. The role combines subsystem engineering, hands-on laboratory work, test automation, data analysis, troubleshooting, and clear technical documentation.

What You Will Do

• Contribute to the design, integration, and testing of CPU and high-speed input and output subsystems for advanced compute platforms.
• Take ownership of defined engineering tasks from requirements and test planning through execution, analysis, and technical review.
• Develop system-level validation plans, procedures, scripts, and tools that improve test coverage, repeatability, data collection, and analysis.
• Evaluate platform performance, power, signal behavior, reliability, and interoperability using laboratory measurements and system data.
• Investigate emerging input and output technologies, including PCIe 6.0 and 800G Ethernet, and assess their use in advanced computing systems.
• Support platform power, cooling, and energy-efficiency investigations, including liquid-cooling systems for high-performance processors.
• Use power meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and comparable laboratory equipment to execute tests and gather reliable evidence.
• Analyze unexpected behavior, reproduce issues, perform structured root-cause investigations, and help verify corrective actions.
• Collaborate across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and systems teams to resolve integration issues.
• Maintain accurate requirements, test procedures, scripts, data summaries, engineering notes, and change records.
• Present progress, results, risks, and technical recommendations clearly and follow applicable engineering, configuration-control, laboratory, and safety procedures.

What You Will Bring

• A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or a closely related field, completed recently or expected before the role begins.
• A strong foundation in computer architecture, digital systems, embedded systems, hardware-software interaction, or system-level engineering.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and technical measurements through coursework, research, internships, student teams, or personal projects.
• Experience with at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
• Ability to plan technical work, analyze test data, document results accurately, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
• A structured approach to problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.
• Curiosity, sound engineering judgment, and willingness to learn unfamiliar tools, systems, and laboratory methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship, research, academic, or project experience with CPU subsystems, PCIe, Ethernet, high-speed interfaces, or platform validation.
• Experience using power meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, or similar laboratory equipment.
• Experience creating test automation, data-analysis tools, or engineering scripts.
• Exposure to platform performance characterization, power delivery, thermal management, liquid cooling, or energy efficiency.
• Familiarity with systems integration, design verification, configuration control, or engineering change processes.
• Experience presenting engineering work or test results in a technical review setting.
