Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a New Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer (StarShield) in Hawthorne, CA. You will own hardware from concept to production and on-orbit operations, while performing design, analysis, and testing across cross-disciplinary teams.

You will rapidly iterate designs, drive system trades, and ensure lifecycle efficiency. The role emphasizes rigorous design verification, DFM, and delivering reliable hardware within fast timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline.
• Experience with CAD or FEA software packages (academic, internship, or professional).
• Experience with mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis.
• Graduating with a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in 2027.

Responsibilities

• Own hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through volume production and on-orbit operations to support customers’ needs.
• Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization.
• Rapidly iterate on designs and analysis to inform high-level systems trades and steer product direction.
• Drive holistic DFM to reduce piece parts and process count, ensure fabrication and integration quality.
• Establish an efficient product lifecycle from supply chain to final integration with internal teams.
• Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware to validate analyses.
• Own product delivery timeline from conception to launch.
• Demonstrate extreme ownership of product outcomes at every stage.
