Job summary

Pennoni is seeking an Entry-Level Graduate Engineer for a hybrid position in the Baltimore area. You will support construction management, inspection, and project documentation while gaining field exposure on transportation, utility, and site development projects.

Under supervision, you will assist with contract administration, quantity verification, QA, and coordination. Travel to project sites and outdoor work are expected; MS Office proficiency required and EIT/CAD familiarity welcomed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of construction activities to verify compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
• Observe and document contractor operations, work progress, and site conditions.
• Perform quantity measurements and assist with verification of contractor payment quantities.

Position Summary

The Construction Management & Inspection Division is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Graduate Engineer to join our growing team. This hybrid position combines office-based engineering support with hands‑on field experience on transportation, utility, infrastructure, and site development projects. Under the guidance of senior engineers, project managers, and construction inspectors, the Graduate Engineer will assist with construction management, construction inspection, contract administration, project documentation, quantity verification, quality assurance, and coordination activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to develop practical engineering skills while gaining exposure to all phases of construction delivery.

Essential Responsibilities

Field Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection of construction activities to verify compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
• Observe and document contractor operations, work progress, and site conditions.

• Review construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals.
• Prepare reports, spreadsheets, estimates, and project correspondence.
• Maintain electronic project files and construction documentation systems.
• Assist with schedule tracking, quantity reconciliation, and project record management.
• Support project managers and resident engineers with administrative and technical tasks.
• Compile field data and assist in preparation of project status reports.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, utility companies, and regulatory agencies as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Internship or co-op experience in construction, transportation, or civil engineering.
• Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, Primavera, or similar platforms.
• Experience with CAD, GIS, or related engineering software.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs, and navigate active construction sites.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

This position follows a hybrid work model consisting of both office and project-site assignments. The majority of time will be spent supporting active construction projects in the field while completing documentation, reporting, and project coordination tasks from the office or remote work environment. Expected Travel: Local and regional travel to project sites as required. (Greater Baltimore Area)

TARGET SALARY RANGE

$31.50 - $35.00 (per hour)
