Job description

Process Technician 3 – R&D / Semiconductor Process Development

Location: Fremont, CA

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

Schedule: Swing Shift, Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM

Alternative Schedules: Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday may be considered

Duration: 24 Months with possible extensions or Contract-to-Hire

Pay Rate: Up to $38.32/hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a Process Technician 3 to support research and development activities involving advanced process development, testing, experimentation, and equipment operation.

This is a hands‑on role working closely with engineers in an R&D environment. The technician will assist with process experiments, sample preparation, equipment setup, measurements, troubleshooting, and data collection. The position provides an excellent opportunity for candidates with a technical bachelor's degree and some internship or professional experience to develop hands‑on expertise in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor process technology.

Semiconductor experience is not required. Candidates with strong technical education, internship experience, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical tests, experiments, and process development activities in an R&D laboratory environment.
  • Set up and operate processing and laboratory equipment for engineering experiments.
  • Prepare samples, perform chemical treatments, and execute process flows according to established procedures.
  • Support experimental runs and collect accurate process and measurement data.
  • Operate metrology equipment to perform measurements such as thin‑film characterization, critical dimension measurements, and SEM imaging.
  • Create and modify process recipes and assist with tuning recipes for improved robustness and performance.
  • Monitor process performance and identify trends, abnormalities, or out-of-specification conditions.
  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC), including measurement, analysis, reporting, and identification of potential process issues.
  • Assist engineers with troubleshooting process and equipment issues and clearing basic equipment alarms.
  • Support sample preparation activities including microscopy, cleaving, and other laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare records, charts, graphs, presentations, and technical documentation summarizing experimental results.
  • Assist with developing and improving measurement and metrology procedures.
  • Follow laboratory, safety, chemical handling, and cleanroom protocols.
  • Support training of new technicians and engineering personnel on laboratory procedures and equipment operation.
  • Provide assistance to engineers and other team members with laboratory operations and process execution.
  • Recommend improvements to experiment execution, process efficiency, quality, and laboratory procedures.
  • Work effectively with engineering, metrology, manufacturing, and laboratory operations teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or another science/technical discipline.
  • Internship, co‑op, or some previous professional work experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on R&D environment.

  • Ability to operate computer interfaces and navigate diagnostic or process software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work onsite in a cleanroom environment.
  • Comfortable wearing required cleanroom PPE, including bunny suits, shoe covers, safety glasses, masks, shields, and gloves.
  • Comfortable working with chemicals while following established safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to walk approximately 5,000–10,000 steps per shift.
  • Ability to reach into equipment and work at heights between approximately 12 and 71 inches.
  • Ability to work a swing shift and remain flexible when priorities change, including occasional rework or overtime as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Semiconductor manufacturing or R&D experience.
  • Experience working with laboratory, manufacturing, or process equipment.
  • Familiarity with metrology, microscopy, SEM, or materials characterization.
  • Experience with SPC, process data analysis, or experimental testing.
  • Experience working with multiple tools or computer systems simultaneously.Strong efficiency, organization, and multitasking skills.
