Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) seeks an Energy Systems Analyst Graduate Student Intern for Fall 2026. The role focuses on energy systems modeling, technoeconomic assessment, geospatial analysis, and network optimization in a multidisciplinary team.

The position is part-time (10–20 hours/week) for 6–9 months, with potential hybrid work arrangements. Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a relevant graduate degree and meet NDAA access requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with NDAA Section 3112.
• Must be a continuing student in good standing pursuing a graduate degree or have completed a bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to work part time ~10–20 hours/week for 6–9 months.
• Academic or research background in energy systems, chemical/industrial/mechanical engineering, economics, OR data science.
• Experience or coursework in technoeconomic assessment, lifecycle assessment, geospatial analysis, network optimization, or energy systems modeling.
• Familiar with Python, MATLAB, R, Excel, GIS software, or optimization solvers.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technoeconomic and lifecycle assessments of energy technologies and fuels.
• Develop geospatial analysis and network optimization using infrastructure and data.
• Synthesize research to evaluate system configurations and deployment strategies.
• Collaborate with scientists and analysts in a multidisciplinary team.
• Prepare technical summaries, presentations, and visualizations.
