Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites entry-level Civil Engineers to join the EDGE program, a 15–24 month engineering development experience. You will rotate through key areas, applying your studies while building leadership and technical skills within VDOT.

Successful completion places you in available classified roles and may include financial support to earn the EIT designation before start dates.

Qualifications

Ability to apply engineering knowledge to complete projects and other tasks.
Ability to make independent decisions and maximize resources.
Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and obtain EIT within 12 months.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or ABET-accredited related program.
Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

Analyze engineering data and prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations.
Provide technical guidance and training on assigned engineering areas.
Manage projects to ensure timely and accurate completion within scope.
Communicate with internal staff, local government, consultants and FHWA.
Assist in design and development of transportation projects across disciplines.
Support engineering processes and compliance with standards.
