Job summary

E. & J. Gallo Winery invites Master’s or PhD students to join the Winegrowing Chemistry Research department for a 6‑month internship (July–December 2027). You will gain hands‑on experience in industrial research, evaluating grape chemistry, developing rapid testing methods, and applying advanced instrumentation in a winery setting.

You’ll work on modeling chemistry–sensory relationships and analyzing data with computer software, potentially traveling to other production sites during harvest.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program or has completed a Master’s/PhD in Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or Engineering.
• Must have valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; motor vehicle check will be performed.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; good written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate chemical characteristics of grapes during maturation.
• Develop rapid chemical methods to measure juice and wine attributes at the winery.
• Perform chemical analyses using instruments (HPLC, GC‑MS, FTIR, GPC, IC, ITC).
• Model relationships between product chemistry and sensory attributes.
• Use software to statistically analyze data.
• Work in production settings during harvest and may travel to other sites.
