Graduate Assistant - Provost (Standard) are student workers who contribute to the mission of Southern university while pursuing their graduate studies. This position will assist the department faculty or supervisors with administrative or project-related tasks, as assigned. GA positions are established on a term-to-term basis and are not guaranteed for the entire academic year.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION for Graduate Assistant - Provost (Standard)
The Graduate Assistant in the Office of the Provost provides administrative and project support to the Provost and Executive Liaison in advancing the academic mission of the University. Working approximately 20 hours per week, the assistant helps maintain the daily operations of the office. Not limited to: preparing correspondence, meeting materials, scheduling and coordinating meetings with deans, department chairs, and faculty; maintaining accurate records; and working the receptionist desk as needed.
A significant portion of the role involves research and data support. The assistant compiles information for accreditation, assessment, and program review efforts; assists with tracking faculty credentialing, course inventories, and enrollment data; and prepares summaries and draft reports that inform academic decision-making. The assistant also supports special projects and events sponsored by the Provost's Office, such as faculty development sessions, opening-year meetings, and university-wide academic initiatives.
Preferred qualifications include strong writing and organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and university systems, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.

EXPERIENCE
Required:
Administrative experience in the department or academic field specified
Customer Service Experience
Prior office or administrative experience in any professional setting — front desk, department office, calendar scheduling, customer service.
Strong writing: they'll be drafting on behalf of the Provost.
Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Word formatting and Excel basics.
Demonstrated discretion — experience handling confidential information (HR, student records, healthcare, legal, ministry).
Preferred:
Administrative experience in the department or academic field specified
Customer Service Experience
Data or reporting work: pulling numbers, building simple spreadsheets, cleaning lists.
Event or project coordination — tracking many moving pieces against a deadline.
