Job summary

Barnard College is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the Empirical Reasoning Center (ERC). The GA will support students, staff, and faculty in empirical analysis and instructional activities, with specialized focus areas in quantitative methods, GIS/spatial analysis, or data for social impact.

The role involves workshops, consultations, and program initiatives to strengthen data literacy and responsible data practices across Barnard curricula.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching undergraduates.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of at least one core ERC technology (R, Stata, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Experience with course preparation and management.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience in statistical modeling.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new technologies and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students during open lab hours using tools like Excel, Stata, R, Python, GIS, and SPSS.
  • Design and teach workshops to support ERC curricular initiatives.
  • Contribute to ERC events and programs from planning through assessment.
  • Maintain documentation and assist in developing instructional resources.
  • Develop expertise in applied empirical methods and instructional practice.
