McDonald Brothers Grading llc is seeking a Grading/Storm Drain Heavy Equipment Operator to support land development projects in Winston Salem, NC.

Position Summary

The Grading/Storm Drain Heavy Equipment Operator will operate and maintain heavy equipment used in grading, storm drain installation, and related site preparation work. This role plays a key part in ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to specification.

You will work in a hands-on field environment, collaborating with the crew to interpret job requirements, follow established procedures, and maintain a high standard of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to perform grading and storm drain installation tasks according to project plans and specifications

• Prepare job sites by leveling, excavating, and shaping terrain to meet layout and elevation requirements

• Perform routine pre-operation inspections, basic maintenance, and equipment housekeeping to keep equipment in safe operating condition

• Follow safety procedures and company standards, including proper use of PPE and adherence to jobsite protocols

• Assist with coordination of daily work activities, communicate job progress and issues to the crew lead, and support efficient crew operations

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience operating heavy equipment in grading, excavation, or storm drain-related work

• Ability to safely operate equipment in active construction environments, including uneven or changing terrain

• Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and safe work habits

• Ability to read and follow basic site instructions, communicate clearly with the crew, and respond to direction on the job

• Willingness to work full-time onsite in Winston Salem, NC

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating equipment commonly used for grading and drainage work (e.g., excavators, loaders, compactors) in a production environment

• Familiarity with interpreting basic site plans, layout instructions, and elevation goals

• Demonstrated attention to detail and quality control when shaping, grading, and preparing areas for drainage systems

Compensation

Hourly rate: $18.00 - $22.00
