Job summary

Sherwood Companies is seeking a Foreman to supervise a grading crew on heavy civil projects in Oklahoma. You will lead daily operations, ensure safety, quality, and timely completion while coordinating with other crews and stakeholders.

The role requires 5 years of grading experience in heavy civil construction and 2–3 years of leadership. A valid driver’s license and strong communication skills are essential for success on diverse-site projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • 5+ years of quality experience in heavy civil construction grading.
  • 2–3 years of experience in managing and leading a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example that safety is the number one priority.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of grading crews.
  • Ensure efficiency and quality of grading work.
  • Read specifications/blueprints to determine construction requirements.
  • Inspect progress to verify safety, quality and specs.
  • Locate and mark site locations for structures or equipment.
  • Coordinate work with other crews and contractors.
  • Train and develop crew members as needed.
  • Maintain professional customer relations.

Job description

The Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating activities for a grading crew on varying heavy civil construction projects.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
  • Lead by example that safety is the number one priority.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in activities relating to grading of a job site
  • Ensure efficiency and quality work relating to grading
  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule activities with other crews and contractors on a project
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements and procedure planning
  • Inspect work progress, equipment or construction sites to verify safety, quality and specifications are met
  • Locate, measure and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities
  • Confer with superintendent or technical personnel, other departments or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities
  • Assist workers engaged in construction activities, using hand tools or other equipment
  • Train and develop crew members as deemed necessary
  • Maintain good customer relations by acting in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to proficiently operate excavator, front bucket loaders, fork lift and skid steer.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required
