Job description

The Earthwork Grading Foreman is responsible for leading a crew in all aspects of grading and site prep. This position runs the day-to-day dirt work operations on the jobsite, making sure work is done safely, efficiently, and to grade. The Foreman sets the pace, keeps the crew on track, and works alongside them when needed to get the job done right.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily communication with the Superintendent regarding job specific needs including workforce and equipment requirements.
  • Lead and manage a grading crew on sitework and earthmoving projects
  • Read and understand plans, grade stakes, and elevations
  • Set and maintain proper grades for pads, drainage, slopes, etc.
  • Coordinate daily work activities and keep production moving
  • Operate equipment as needed (dozer, motor grader, excavator, skid steer, etc.)
  • Ensure all work meets project specs and quality standards
  • Communicate with superintendents, project managers, and survey crews
  • Identify and solve problems in the field quickly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
  • Train and mentor crew members
  • Ensures all work follows specified quality standards. Inspects field work for quality compliance, materials for quality compliance and review assembly of manufacturer’s literature and drawings before work begins.
  • Monitor production, resource utilization and job costs to maintain profit margin on projects.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Lead by example when it comes to safety—no shortcuts
  • Enforce company safety policies and jobsite rules
  • Conduct daily safety checks and address hazards immediately
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe equipment operation
  • Stop work if unsafe conditions exist
Qualifications
  • Strong background in earthwork, grading, and site development
  • Proven experience running a crew on grading or dirt work projects
  • Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and shoot grade (GPS/laser experience is a MUST)
  • Skilled in operating heavy equipment
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and keep projects on schedule
  • Willing to work in the field alongside the crew
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers
