Job summary

Sherwood Construction in Tulsa is seeking a Foreman to supervise grading crews on heavy civil projects, ensuring safety, productivity and quality on every site.

You will read blueprints, coordinate with other trades, train crew members, inspect work, and drive timely completion while maintaining strong client relations. Five years of grading experience and two to three years in leadership are preferred with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • 5 years of quality experience in heavy civil construction specifically working on grading.
  • 2–3 years of experience in managing and leading a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise grading crews to ensure safety, efficiency, and high-quality results.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to plan grading operations.
  • Inspect work progress and equipment to verify compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Coordinate activities with other crews and contractors on the project.
  • Train and develop crew members as needed.
  • Operate or oversee operation of excavation equipment (as applicable).
  • Maintain professional communication with the superintendent and clients.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating activities for a grading crew on varying heavy civil construction projects.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
  • Lead by example that safety is the number one priority.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in activities relating to grading of a job site
  • Ensure efficiency and quality work relating to grading
  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule activities with other crews and contractors on a project
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements and procedure planning
  • Inspect work progress, equipment or construction sites to verify safety, quality and specifications are met
  • Locate, measure and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities
  • Confer with superintendent or technical personnel, other departments or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities
  • Assist workers engaged in construction activities, using hand tools or other equipment
  • Train and develop crew members as deemed necessary
  • Maintain good customer relations by acting in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to proficiently operate excavator, front bucket loaders, fork lift and skid steer.
