Job summary

Housatonic Valley Waldorf School seeks a Lead Extended Care Teacher to support its mission and provide after-school programming for HVWS Grade school students.

The role runs Monday through Friday, 3-5:30/6pm (depending on enrollment) on campus, fostering a loving, secure space. You will coordinate with staff, track attendance, and help ensure smooth transitions between programs while prioritizing family needs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure smooth transition from school to Extended Care Program.
• Keep accurate attendance records.
• Coordinate with other After School Program Teachers for facility usage and transitioning students between the programs.
• Supervise children in the extended care program at all times.
• Provide a loving, secure and supportive space for the children.
• Manage extended care program needs including supplies and budget.
• Provide snack, games, and engaging activities.
• Work with the children to foster a clean and tidy environment in the classroom, ensuring the facility is left ready for the next day.
• Coordinate with parents to ensure smooth pick-up procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference in hiring for this position will be given to candidates who have completed or started their Waldorf Teacher Training.
  

Time Required on School Premises

• Monday through Friday, 3-5:30/6pm (depending on enrollment)
  

Classroom Responsibilities

1. Ensure smooth transition from school to Extended Care Program.
2. Keep accurate attendance records.
3. Coordinate with other After School Program Teachers for facility usage and transitioning students between the programs.
   
4. Supervise children in the extended care program at all times.
5. Take great care to provide a loving, secure and supportive space for the children.

8. Work with the children to foster a clean and tidy environment in the classroom, ensuring the facility is left ready for the next day.
9. Ensure a smooth transition from afternoon care to the late care program.
10. Coordinate with parents to ensure smooth pick-up procedures.
11. Limit cell phone usage to emergency purposes only.

School Responsibilities

1. Communicate questions, concerns, and observations to fellow extended care teacher(s) and/or class teachers as well as the Executive Director.
2. Commit to continuing education by attending lectures, workshops, conferences to deepen one’s understanding of Waldorf pedagogy when possible.
3. Participate in peer review, self-evaluations, and mentoring as listed in employment contract.

By the College of Teachers and HVWS Board of Trustees, as outlined in the Teacher Search Guidelines for hiring and Staff Development Guidelines for termination. Preference in hiring for this position will be given to candidates who have completed Waldorf teacher-training.
