Nature of Position

The 9th Grade Literacy Tutor will provide supplemental daily instruction to students in grade 9 who are identified as needing additional support in adolescent literacy.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

• Provides literacy instruction and support to grade 9 students in collaboration with classroom teachers, department chairs, and teacher specialists.
• Teaches fundamental reading skills to small groups of students
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of the assigned group utilizing district provided resources
• Participates in monthly professional development and training focusing on literacy instruction and best practices
• Collaborates with the department chair in planning for the instructional needs of the students
• Monitors and documents academic progress of the assigned students
• Maintain appropriate records
• Communicates with classroom teachers, teacher specialist, and/or department chair to discuss student progress and provide feedback
• Follow an instructional schedule developed by school personnel working 5 hours a day
• Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school
• Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

• In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
• Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.
