Job summary

InDyne is seeking a skilled GPS Technician to support the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) GPS Team at Patuxent River, MD. This full-time, on-site role involves installation, maintenance, and data handling for critical DoD testing environments.

You will perform detailed electrical and mechanical work, read engineering drawings, and ensure instrumentation integrity across flight operations, with potential travel to DoD range sites. A DoD security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • AA/AS in Engineering/Electronics or related curriculum or 30 semester hours from an accredited college.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years wiring electrical components and harness fabrication.
  • IPC-J-STD-001 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory and circuit testing.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate with minimal day-to-day oversight while ensuring range instrumentation integrity.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on GPS tracking instrumentation, RF links, and related systems.
  • Install GPS hardware, antennas, and cabling on military aircraft and test platforms per MILSPEC, NAVAIR, and IPC standards.
  • Provide pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight range support for NAS Patuxent River and DoD facilities.
  • Record mission data, extract TSPI data, and verify test events.
  • Collaborate to fabricate wire harnesses and test next-generation GPS receivers and datalink hardware.
  • Support flight test schedules, including overtime and up to 25% travel.

Job description

Overview

Background Information:

This full-time, onsite position will support the GPS Team at the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) in Patuxent River, MD. ATR is the Navy’s East Coast open-air test range and provides cutting-edge test and evaluation services including decision-quality data to support live aircraft and weapon system testing for Navy and other DoW customers. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate with minimal day-to-day oversight, applying sound technical judgment to ensure range instrumentation integrity before, during, and after flight operations.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on GPS component-based tracking instrumentation sets, RF links, and associated cooperative tracking systems using diagnostic equipment (digital multimeters, wattmeters, RF power meters, oscilloscopes, and hand/power tools).
  • Perform mechanical and electrical installations of GPS tracking hardware, antennas, and cabling aboard various military host aircraft and test platforms in full compliance with MILSPEC, NAVAIR guidelines, and IPC standards.
  • Provide dedicated pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight operational range support across NAS Patuxent River tenant activities and external DoD testing facilities.
  • Conduct mission data recording, extraction, and post-flight recovery operations for critical customer TSPI analysis and test event verification.
  • Collaborate with range systems engineers to fabricate wire harnesses, prototype assemblies, and custom cabling; assist in the testing, modification, and evaluation of next-generation GPS receivers and datalink hardware.
  • Support operational flight test schedules requiring overtime, flightline environments, and up to 25% travel (including domestic DoD range sites and occasional maritime/shipboard detachments).

Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required
  • Engineering/Electronics Technician AA/AS degree or related curriculum from an accredited college or university or successful completion of technical school, trade school, or advanced armed services technical school or successful completion of at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of courses from an accredited college.
  • A minimum of 5years of work experience performing the stated or similar function.
  • A minimum of 4 years of the stated experience must include wiring of electrical components such as data acquisition units; fabrication of wire harnesses; soldering of PC boards and other components.
  • Active certification in IPC-J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies).
  • Solid working knowledge of AC/DC electrical and electronic theory, troubleshooting logic, and circuit testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, wiring schematics, technical manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Desired Qualifications:
    • Direct hands-on experience performing avionics or instrumentation maintenance on military aircraft (fixed-wing, rotary-wing, or unmanned systems).
    • Aviation Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) inspector background within a NAVAIR, military, or defense aerospace environment.
    • Working knowledge of DoD Test Range Operations, Time-Space-Position-Information (TSPI) data gathering, or airborne datalink systems.
    • Familiarity with mechanical fabrication, chassis modification, and specialized military connector crimping/soldering techniques.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a drug screening

Clearance Requirements:

  • Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
  • Employment and start date is contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance

Work Conditions:

Conditions will vary.Most work performed in enclosed buildings, but some outside work may be required. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.Applicant should be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted, and 100 lbs. assisted by other employees. Vision abilities needed to perform this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
