Virginia Highlands Community College is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Accountant to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the college’s financial operations. The role emphasizes GAAP and GASB standards, with hands-on work in reconciliations, grant accounting, and asset management.

The candidate will support budgeting, financial reporting, and adherence to state regulations, collaborating with the Director of Budget and Finance and campus staff.

Qualifications

• Minium of Associates Degree in Accounting.
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB requirements.
• Experience with automated financial systems such as PeopleSoft AIS or Cardinal.
• Knowledge of financial statement preparation and footnote preparation.
• Ability to produce accurate, timely financial information and reports.
• Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
• Team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial reconciliations for state, local and grant funds.
• Monitor grant expenditures and prepare reimbursement requests; liaise with grant directors and staff.
• Manage inventory and assets, maintain asset records, and conduct biennial inventories.
• Audit SPCC transactions and assist as SPCC administrator.
• Assist with ARMICS evaluation and certification.
• Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations and GASB standards.
