Job summary

Gloucester County is seeking a meticulous Accountant to manage fiscal controls within the Finance Department, overseeing accounts payable, capital assets, and insurance programs while performing complex reconciliations and year-end depreciation calculations with independent judgment.

The successful candidate will supervise Accounting Technicians, coordinate with auditors, and prepare reports for the annual audit, applying governmental accounting standards and asset-management procedures.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of applying bookkeeping and accounting principles to governmental transactions.
• Broad knowledge of fixed assets program procedures and policies.
• Broad knowledge of County accounting practices and procedures.
• Ability to understand laws/regulations governing financial records.
• Ability to verify documents and balance figures with independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Oversees accounts payable workflow and guides staff; reviews work and provides feedback; assists with complex problems and training of new staff.
• Manages Liability, Volunteer, Public Officials, and Flood Insurance Programs; renews policies and processes claims; handles asset and insurance schedules.
• Manages the Capital Asset Program; classifies assets, assigns tags, conducts routine inventory, communicates insurance coverage needs.
• Maintains capital assets databases; processes acquisitions/deletions/transfers and reconciles balances; computes depreciation for year-end audits.
• Reconciles payroll workpapers to GL; balances deductions, benefits, and taxes; posts journal entries in the financial system.
