Job summary

Gloucester County is seeking an Accountant to manage fiscal controls and governmental accounting within the Finance Department. The role covers accounts payable, capital assets, insurance programs, and depreciation calculations with independent judgment.

The position reports to Finance Leadership and requires attention to detail, five years of related experience, and a degree in accounting or related field. Equity for advancement and professional development are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of directly related accounting experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable workflow and communicate improvement opportunities to Accounting Manager.
• Oversee Liability, Volunteer, Public Officials, and Flood Insurance programs; manage annual policy renewal and claims.
• Manage the Capital Asset Program, research expenditures for capital assets.
• Maintain capital assets databases and reconcile acquisitions, deletions, transfers through year end balances.
• Reconcile payroll workpapers to the general ledger; post journal entries.
• Handle auto policy changes, seizures, and vehicle auctions.
• Manage inter-fund/general billing and resolve related queries.
• Import County and School PCard transactions; reconcile in general ledger with Excel.
• Assist with bi-annual Cost Allocation Plan with external auditors.
• Reconcile Utilities revenue and AR interface with general ledger.
• Assist Audit preparations and prepare debt account adjusting entries.
• Review lease reconciliations for library and health department.
