Job summary

Whispering Firs Golf Course seeks a Golf Operations Manager to lead the pro shop, coordinate tournaments, and manage outside golf operations at JBLM in Washington. The role reports to the General Manager and requires oversight of tee-sheet and merchandise functions.

The position emphasizes experience in golf facility management, tournament operations, and staff supervision, with a scheduling pattern supporting a seven-day operation and the possibility of nights/weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience in overall management of a golf facility and supervising at least one function (pro shop, sales, tournaments).

• PGA Class-A membership in good standing is highly preferred.

Overview

Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Dupont, WA) | Eagles Pride Golf Course and Whispering Firs Golf Course are both located within the Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the Dupont, WA area. These two courses are strongly connected. EPGC is located with easy access on the westside of Interstate 5 and is open to the public. WFGC is also open to the public, but is within the secure gates of JBLM so guests must gain access to the base in order to play WFGC. Both facilities have a clubhouse and a full-scale practice facility. The two courses as follows:

• Eagles Pride Golf Course | With its impressive design and perfectly-groomed layout, this 27-hole championship course features exceptional greens, manicured fairways, and forgiving rough with tee boxes designed for all levels of golfers. sThe golf course uses the original 18-hole (winter course) configuration starting in early November. The course switches to the 27-hole (summer course) layout in late March. Golfers enjoy year-round practice at our lighted and heated facility that offers 10 covered hitting areas.
• Whispering Firs Golf Course | Whispering Firs features 18 holes and 6,646 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.8 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Blue grass. Overall, the golf course is a challenging, yet fair course.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manages all aspects of the Pro Shop Operation, Tournament Operations and outside support operations (i.e. club storage, carts, starters/monitors, driving range operations) with direct supervision over the outside supervisor and Pro Shop staff.
• Supervises the planning, scheduling, coordinating and assists the event activity in all aspects of conducting an organizational, outside or golf course sponsored tournament to include registration, scoring and range and cart setup.
• Responsible for the operating effectiveness and efficiency of the pro shop, tournament, and outside golf operations
• Conducts end of the month pro shop inventories and provides training to all pro shop employees in golf shop procedures.
• Oversees both the Food and Golf operations in the absence of the General Manager. Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of employment

• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position to include Supervisor of Minor checks.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a medical examination.
• Incumbent is required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• The ability to obtain (within first six months of employment) and maintain a Food Protection Manager Certification.
• The Food Protection Manager Certification is acquired through an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited agency is required (i.e., ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Program).
• This is a 7-day operation, work schedule will vary based on the needs of the activity. Nights, weekends and holidays are required.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

• Must have experience in the overall management of a golf facility and in the supervising of at least one function of a golf facility, such as pro shop, sale administration, planning and scheduling tournaments or establishing administrative procedures and policies. Experience may include funds accountability, requisitioning, and supply procedures.
• Must have experience in the GHIN system and know all aspects of amateur golf rules and regulations.
• Must have knowledge of golf-related equipment and merchandise.
• Must have experience in all aspects of tournament operation.
• Must have ability to manage and maximize a tee-sheet.
• Will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified"

• A PGA Class -A membership in good standing.
