Job summary

The City of Hampton, VA, is seeking a part-time grounds technician for the Hamptons Golf Course maintenance crew. This outdoor role involves assisting with daily turf care, mowing, trimming and course presentation, with onsite training provided. Benefits include free golf for you and your immediate family, and a friendly, inclusive work environment.

Work hours total up to 25 per week, with some night/weekend shifts possible as needed. Prior golf course experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year of experience as a grounds technician or related position; golf course experience preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; perform heavy outdoor labor; good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Safety sensitive position; background check required.
• Registered Technician Pesticide License preferred.

Minimum Requirements

• Incumbents must be eighteen (18) years of age. Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED preferred.
• One (1) year of experience as a grounds technician, equipment operator, or in a skilled labor position preferred. Previous experience working on golf courses desirable.
• Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform heavy outside manual labor; good interpersonal skills and good customer service skills.
• Registered Technician Pesticide License preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to an offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• Incumbent performs duties with general direction from a team leader or more senior technician, but works within a team to carry out specific assignments without constant supervision.
• Duties may be performed on nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Frequent contact with the general public and other employees is required.
• This position is non-exempt.

This is a part-time position and the weekly hours will be no more than 25 hours per week, and may be less.
