Job summary

The City of Hampton Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a part-time Grounds Technician for the Hamptons Golf Course. You will assist with course maintenance, perform heavy outdoor labor, and support greens, fairways, and landscapes in a team setting.

Applicants must be 18+, have a high school diploma or GED preferred, and be able to follow directions. Pesticide license preferred; background check required. Schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays, with up to 25 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Must be eighteen years of age.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of experience as grounds technician or in a skilled labor position preferred; previous golf course experience desirable.
• Ability to perform heavy outdoor manual labor and follow oral and written directions.
• Registered Technician Pesticide License preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Incumbent performs duties with general direction from a team leader and works within a team to carry out assignments.
• Duties may include work on nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Frequent contact with the general public and other employees is required.
• This is a part-time position with up to 25 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements

• Incumbents must be eighteen (18) years of age. Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED preferred.
• One (1) year of experience as a grounds technician, equipment operator, or in a skilled labor position preferred. Previous experience working on golf courses desirable.
• Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform heavy outside manual labor; good interpersonal skills and good customer service skills.
• Registered Technician Pesticide License preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to an offer of employment or promotion.

• Incumbent performs duties with general direction from a team leader or more senior technician, but works within a team to carry out specific assignments without constant supervision.
• Duties may be performed on nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Frequent contact with the general public and other employees is required.
