Job summary

City of Hampton is seeking a part-time grounds technician for The Woodlands Golf Course. This outdoor role involves physical labor on a golf course and supporting a welcoming community environment near Hampton University.

Training is provided onsite, with benefits including golf for you and your immediate family. Candidates should be 18+, with high school or GED preferred, and prior golf-course or outdoor-labor experience is a plus; a pesticide license is preferred.

This posting is intended to fill a position(s) at the Woodlands Golf Course: The Woodlands is an 18-hole, regulation par 69, 5,400 yard golf course located at 9 Woodland Road in Hampton, near Hampton University. Minimum Requirements

• Incumbents must be eighteen (18) years of age. Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED preferred.
• One (1) year of experience as a grounds technician, equipment operator, or in a skilled labor position preferred. Previous experience working on golf courses desirable.
• Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform heavy outside manual labor; good interpersonal skills and good customer service skills.
• Registered Technician Pesticide License preferred.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to an offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• Incumbent performs duties with general direction from a team leader or more senior technician, but works within a team to carry out specific assignments without constant supervision.
• Duties may be performed on nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Frequent contact with the general public and other employees is required.
• This position is non-exempt.

This is a part-time position and the weekly hours will be no more than 25 hours per week, and may be less.
