Job summary

Jekyll Island Authority is seeking a Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent to oversee and maintain the island’s golf courses, ensuring top playing conditions and guest satisfaction. You’ll plan daily activities, supervise staff, and coordinate irrigation, fertilization, and safe operations.

Under the Director of Golf Course Maintenance, you will implement maintenance plans, inspect greens and grounds, and lead the team to deliver high-quality course conditions year-round.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in golf course maintenance.
  • Must possess a Georgia category 24 pesticide license.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to train and develop employees.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate responsibilities.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays and/or extended hours as needed to meet operational demands.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, trains, and evaluates assigned staff; reviews and reports on employee concerns and issues, including disciplinary and performance evaluations with the Director of Golf Course Maintenance. Plans, assigns, and directs work assignments for staff.
  • Assists the Director of Golf Course Maintenance in the maintenance of all golf courses, including greens, fairways, tees, bunkers, roughs, etc., including daily inspections of golf courses, clubhouse grounds, and driving range, identifying problems and reporting to the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
  • Prepares and coordinates with the Director of Golf Course Maintenance for overall golf course maintenance plan to ensure cohesive delivery of quality outcomes.
  • Ensures sprinkler heads are in good working order by performing daily inspections, determining necessary when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • When necessary, performs duties of other golf course maintenance staff members, including coverage for the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies as mandated by the Authority; observes and abides by the laws and regulations mandated by the EPA, EPD agencies.
  • Ensures employees perform their job duties in a safe manner to prevent the likelihood of injury to self, other employees, and/or island guests. Maintains safety records for department.
  • Fosters a positive and productive team environment while promoting accountability and professional development.
  • Determines whether the golf courses are playable per inclement weather.
  • Attends staff meetings and additional training as required or requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Under general direction and guidelines from the Director of Golf Course Maintenance, the Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and maintaining Jekyll Island Golf Courses to ensure optimal playing conditions and appearance to ensure positive guest experience.
