Job summary

St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks is seeking a Recreation and Parks Assistant Superintendent for Wicomico Shores to manage daily maintenance, supervise staff, and ensure high-quality playing conditions.

Responsibilities include turf management, irrigation operation, and leading on-site maintenance in the Superintendent's absence. The role requires knowledge of turfgrass culture, irrigation systems, strong leadership, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance.
• Knowledge of turf management practices and irrigation systems.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Superintendent in managing daily maintenance and supervising staff.
• Oversees turf management, including mowing, fertilization, pesticide applications, and course conditioning.
• Operates maintenance equipment and ensures safety procedures are followed.
• Supervises maintenance crews and coordinates scheduling, leave requests, and staffing needs.
• Assists with budget preparation, implementation, and monitoring for the golf course.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
