NOW HIRING: Golf Course Laborer

The golf course laborer performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Park District golf course grounds and facilities. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Golf Course Managers.

Qualifications

Including, but not limited to, some knowledge of golf course grounds and facility practices; knowledge of safety precautions; ability to operate light maintenance equipment; perform simple maintenance and adjustments on equipment; follow written or oral instructions; maintain positive working relationships; and perform duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, persistence, integrity, dependability, tact, and courtesy. Must be in good physical condition and able to lift up to 50 lbs. Education requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience with lawn equipment, garden tools, or machinery is beneficial. Additional certifications such as CPR and First Aid may be required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

1. Operate and drive grass cutting mowers and tractors related to the golf facility.
2. Operate small power tools as required.
3. Plant, cultivate, and prune trees, shrubs, and flowers.
4. Spray shrubs and plants for insect and fungus control (if qualified).
5. Perform rough carpentry, plumbing, and other tasks necessary for day-to-day golf course operations.
6. Perform custodial duties and general work around the shop.
7. Paint golf course accessories, signs, and equipment; make simple repairs as needed.
8. Follow safety rules and procedures established by the safety program.
9. Perform other related duties as required.

Physical Considerations

Must be able to speak and listen regularly. Ability to work closely with coworkers and the public. Frequently lift/move up to 10 lbs and occasionally more than 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.

Environmental Conditions

Work may be required in various weather conditions, from cold winters to hot summers.
