Job summary

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Product Software Engineer to design, develop, and test backend services powering news and streaming platforms. You will partner with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions for guests worldwide.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years building highly available backends using Golang or Java, with AWS, CI/CD, and strong collaboration skills in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IS/Software Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience with distributed backend systems.
• Experience with Golang and/or Java.
• Experience with AWS and scaling services.
• Knowledge of caching (Redis/Memcached).
• CI/CD pipelines and source control tools (Git, GitLab, Jenkins).
• Observability tools (Datadog, Grafana).
• Agile/Scrum development experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with stakeholders on project progress.
• Design and develop new backend solutions and align with teams.
• Test strategy: unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Follow on-call practices including deployments and incident handling.
• Use logs and monitoring to diagnose production incidents.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold code quality.
• Collaborate with product, editorial, and engineering to translate requirements.
• Promote best practices in CI/CD, observability and incident response.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
