Job summary

OpenAI is hiring backend-focused Product Engineers to build infrastructure and customer-facing workflows for developers and AI agents. You’ll work primarily in Go on APIs, orchestration, and long-running tasks, owning outcomes from problem discovery to shipping and operation.

You’ll collaborate with frontend, infrastructure, and security engineers to design reliable, scalable systems, implement durable state, secure execution, and observability, and drive delivery from start to finish.

Qualifications

• Strong Go skills and experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Understand distributed systems, concurrency, and state, and can reason about failures and recovery.
• Practical experience with Linux, containers, cloud infrastructure, and networking.
• Design clear APIs and data models that simplify complex workflows.
• Product-minded and close to customers, owning solutions from discovery to launch.
• Clear communication across disciplines and locations.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with customers to build developer and security workflows from project setup to verification of fixes.
• Build Go services and APIs for provisioning cloud environments and agent execution in customer infrastructure.
• Design reliable orchestration for long-running, parallel work with durable state and retries.
• Incorporate security into execution workflows with clear permissions and auditability.
• Own production quality: testing, safe rollouts, observability, performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend and design teams to simplify backend capabilities for users.
