Job summary

MediaLab.AI Inc. seeks a Backend Engineer for Kik to design, build, and run Go services powering messaging, groups, safety, and Kik Live. You will migrate legacy Java services to Go, ship with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and GitHub Actions, and monitor with Datadog.

You will work in an AI-enabled environment, reviewing AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability, contributing to reliable, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a professional software engineer.
• B.S. degree in Computer Science or similar field preferred but not required.
• Experience building and running micro-services and distributed systems in production.
• Strong Go fundamentals and ability to read and reason about Java code for migration.
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Nice to have: Terraform, gRPC and Protocol Buffers, WebRTC.
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
• Hands‑on experience shipping production code with AI coding tools.
• Strong judgment evaluating AI output and maintaining disciplined code review/testing.

Responsibilities

• Build and extend Go microservices including gRPC APIs and data models.
• Migrate legacy Java services to Go.
• Work AI-first: use coding agents and review outputs before shipping.
• Ship services with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and GitHub Actions.
• Instrument and monitor services in Datadog or equivalent.
• Review code and debug production issues across services.
• Build security and data protection into owned services.
• Participate in on-call rotation (roughly weekly, depending on team size).
