We are seeking a Guidance, Navigation & Controls Engineer to support the design, development, verification, and delivery of GNC subsystems for satellite programs and/or constellations. This role will be responsible for subsystem and system-level analysis, sensor and actuator selection, flight control software development, and verification activities to ensure program requirements are met.
For lead-level candidates, this position may serve as the Responsible Engineering Authority for the GNC subsystem on a single program or across a portfolio of programs. The role requires strong technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, risk management, and the ability to guide and mentor other engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver GNC subsystem hardware, software, and analysis for satellite programs.
- Perform GNC subsystem design, analysis, software development, and component selection to meet program requirements.
- Support mission and system design efforts through technical analysis, algorithm development, and system-level inputs.
- Manage GNC product development within program cost and schedule constraints.
- Track, communicate, and mitigate technical execution risks while reporting progress to program and company leadership.
- Interface with satellite subsystems, systems engineering, manufacturing, and program management teams to ensure system-level performance.
- Support satellite integration and test activities as well as on-orbit operations.
- Provide technical leadership for GNC engineers, including task decomposition, delegation, mentorship, and direction-setting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience with Guidance, Navigation & Controls fundamentals.
- 1+ year of spacecraft system-level experience.
- 1+ year of experience collaborating with engineering subsystems and program leadership.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Ability to obtain an interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance post-start.
Preferred Qualifications
- For Level 4 consideration: Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Experience with satellite integration and test and/or on-orbit operations.
- Experience breaking down large, complex, or ambiguous technical tasks into clearly defined workstreams.
- Ability to perform complex GNC system analyses related to kinematics, dynamics, and control systems using existing or self-developed tools.
- Strong project management fundamentals, including cost and schedule performance tracking.
- Ability to define program direction and develop processes and standards that support the engineering group.
- Advanced understanding of classical and modern control theory, system-level trade studies, architecture development, systems integration, and analysis.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
Work Location & Schedule
This is an onsite position located in El Segundo, CA. The role is full-time, regular, and assigned to Shift 1. Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
