Job summary

The Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources seeks a Forester to manage GNA projects across the Black Hills, including field reconnaissance, timber marking, and contract administration.

This full-time position in Rapid City/Hot Springs requires forestry education or related experience, strong GIS skills, and the ability to coordinate with federal partners; frequent travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of dendrology, forest ecology and silviculture.
• Ability to operate GIS software and collect field data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard data tools.

Responsibilities

• Field reconnaissance, boundary marking and resource documentation.
• Draft and implement timber cruise plans and conduct appraisals.
• Road layout, maintenance assessment and environmental review work in GIS.
• Review NEPA requirements and ensure contract compliance.
