Job summary

Ohio Wesleyan University’s Facilities Services seeks an HVAC technician licensed for refrigerant handling to maintain and repair campus HVACR and related systems. You will support the heating plant, coordinate with contractors, and assist in preventative maintenance on a busy university campus.

The ideal candidate has a strong customer-service mindset, a broad mechanical background, and the ability to work across trades. A Universal refrigerant license and valid OH driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with vocational training or degree.
• Broad mechanical trades background with emphasis on HVACR and building automation.
• Knowledge of electrical control systems, motors, wiring methods, and basic soldering/brazing.
• Knowledge of national, state, and local mechanical codes.

Responsibilities

• Repair, install, maintain and troubleshoot HVACR equipment and related systems.
• Support operation and testing of campus heating plant and related systems.
• Assist in preventive/corrective maintenance programs and supply management.
• Coordinate with outside contractors for chiller, boiler, A/C, and sprinkler work.
• Report safety violations and participate in on-call rotations as required.

You might already have specific experience working in construction or have served in roles in the building trades. OWU Facilities Services is a dedicated group of trades and general maintenance technicians, dedicated to Ohio Wesleyan University students and the campus we collectively serve. Job Summary:

Working under general supervision, the incumbent will apply knowledge and skill to repair, install, maintain and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including associated and connected equipment. Complete routine and emergency work orders. Performs preventive maintenance, as assigned.

Responsibilities and duties:

• Supports the efficient operation, maintenance, and testing of the University heating plant, as well as the following systems: steam distribution, pneumatic, hydronic, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and energy management.
• Aid in the implementation of the preventative/corrective maintenance program.
• Assist in maintaining supply/inventory levels of shop requirements.
• Contributes to other trades and area within facilities as needed and directed by supervisor or other leadership within OWU.
• Helps to coordinate and supervise outside contractors/vendors who provide contractual support for the mechanical trades department functions, such as:
  • Chiller maintenance
  • Boiler maintenance and inspection
  • A/C maintenance
  • Building sprinkler inspections
  • Boiler water treatment
  • PM programs
  • Energy management
• Reports work rules and safety violations to the supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Factors contributing success:

• High school diploma or GEDVocational or technical training or degree.
• Strong Commitment to Customer Service and a willingness to contribute across campus to support students, faculty, staff and visitors.
• Five (5) year’s experience in a related field such as stationary engineer, HVAC, plumbing, or refrigeration.
• Broad-based background and knowledge of all mechanical trades with an emphasis on HVACR and building automation systems.
• Skill in record keeping.
• Knowledge and experience of: electrical control systems, motors and motor control, basic wiring methods, soldering/brazing techniques, and commercial kitchen appliances.
• Knowledge of National, State, and Local mechanical installation, operation, and safety codes.
• Skill in using MS "Word" and "Excel" software.
• Prior BAS experience with Delta, Ecostructure, and or Tridium is desired.

The individual must also:

• Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to pass OWU background check.
• Posses a Universal license for refrigerant.
• Be able to lift weights common to trade.
• Be able to work at heights common to trade.
• Be on an emergency call-in rotation schedule.
• Must be able to be contacted 24/7 during assigned on call schedule.
